- A photo of Christopher Meloni went viral in April because, well, his glutes were looking good.
- In a new Interview Magazine piece, the Law and Order and Wet Hot American Summer star explained what went into the photo of his self-proclaimed “blessed” glutes.
- Meloni’s new show, Law and Order: Organized Crime was recently renewed for a second season.
It was the butt shot heard around the world. On April 7, a behind-the-scenes shot of actor Christopher Meloni filming Law and Order: SVU (or maybe it was his new spin-off, Law and Order: Organized Crime?), and well, there’s no other way to say it than that his ass looked quite prominent. Peter Hess (@PeterNHess), who posted the viral photo originally, summed it up nicely in the follow-up to his own Tweet: “Law and Ardor: Special Thicctims Unit.” Meloni didn’t miss this viral moment, and has now responded to it in a new piece in Interview Magazine.
Along with the new spread in Interview, Meloni gave readers the full lowdown on, well, his butt. And as it turns out, those viral photos caught Meloni at a particularly strong moment where he’d been working particularly hard on a weight training program focused on…the lower half of his body. Here’s his full explanation:
“This is what has happened. I’ve been blessed with glutes that have an attractive shape. But I have a trainer, and we’re going through bodybuilding phases, and where everyone kind of caught me was that I’d been preparing for one year in a very high-intensity weight training program that actually focused on legs. So I guess you could argue that the glute-peeping public are now reaping the benefits of all that hard work.”

The Meloni piece also included a set of workout-centric photographs, which Interview editor-in-chief Nick Haramis shared to Instagram.

Meloni is always busy, but it seems like he’s been particularly notable lately due to his long-awaited return to the world of Law and Order. After 272 episodes in one of the series’ lead roles (alongside Mariska Hargitay), Meloni left SVU in 2011. However, he returned for three episodes this year as a way to lead into a new Law and Order spinoff series centered on his character, Law and Order: Organized Crime. That series just completed its eight-episode Season 1, and was recently renewed for Season 2, which will air in the fall and run for 24 episodes.
